BoermantFillATruck2013We would like to congratulate the mover of the month for November 2013…(drum roll please)…..Boerman Moving & Storage of Woodbridge, IL.   Boerman, an agent of Bekins Van Lines, has been involved with Move For Hunger for only one short year but in that time they have shown their full support of our mission to fight hunger.  They are constantly searching for new ways to help the less fortunate of their community and their enthusiasm really shows.  All their trucks sport Move For BoermantFillATruck2013-3Hunger truck decals and Boerman gave their team members Move For Hunger T-Shirts to show off their pride.  But the biggest impact is felt on their community, in just one year they have collected over 1,000 lbs. of food, enough to provide more than 833 lifesaving meals to those that need it the most.

Boerman Bekins In November Boerman held a Fill-A-Truck food drive which collected over 600 lbs of food for the West Suburban Community Pantry in a single day, ensuring that hundreds of families could enjoy a wholesome meal over the holiday and they are already busy planning a casino night food drive for January, where players will have to buy-in with canned goods. We know that we will continue to see big things from Boerman and we hope you will please join us in congratulating Boerman Moving & Storage on their fantastic achievement.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
