Once a month we take the time to recognize one of the many of our awesome movers for their outstanding commitment to our cause with the Mover of the Month Award. In case you haven't seen these posts, we honor one moving company that has gone above and beyond to provide food for the less fortunate, whether that be through an awesome food drives, collecting a ton of food or all around enthusiasm.

Without further ado, we present September's Mover of the Month: Beverly Hills Transfer and Storage. The team at Beverly Hills Transfer and Storage first joined with Move For Hunger way back in October of 2011 and have been great partners

Since 2011, Beverly Hills Transfer and Storage has delivered over 4708 lbs. to the food bank of Southern California. That's enough to provide a meal for 3,922 people. While everyone thinks of Southern California as a sunny paradise, there is actually a huge hunger problem in SoCal. More than 462,000 people in San Diego County alone rely on the food bank for lifesaving meals. The effects of hunger are felt all over California, and that's why we'd like to honor Beverly Hills Transfer & Storage for their efforts to make California a better place.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
