Congratulations to  Berger Allied of Charlotte, NC -  for being honored as our Mover of the Month for January 2013.

2012-10-06_16-56-56_890

Today, Move For Hunger partners with 12 Berger locations across the country-but it all started with Berger Charlotte. As a two-time recipient of the Mover of the Month Award (he also received it at his previous company!), General Manager Michael Zlotnik energized and inspired his colleagues to go the extra mile in the fight against hunger: and go the extra mile they have.

When two sisters Kelly and Micah approached Move For Hunger to help those struggling in their community we knew just who to reach out to to make their dreams a reality.  2012-10-06_16-39-23_736Together  the two sisters with the help of Berger Moving have held 3 HUGE Fill-A-Truck food drives. (Drive 1) (Drive 2) (Drive 3)  In fact they are the reigning champions of the Fill-A-Truck:  their record for the biggest single-day fill-a-truck drive remains unmatched at a colossal 8,500 pounds!  In total, Berger Charlotte has delivered over 21,000 pounds of food to local pantries: that translates to over 16,000 meals.

Thank you Berger Charlotte for your commitment to fighting hunger in your community.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
