"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" - MLK Jr.
On January 18th, 2016, the Lynn Youth Health Alliance answered Dr. King's question. Collaborating with Move For Hunger, Kiki Leguisamon and the Lynn Youth Health Alliance hosted a MLK Jr. Day food drive at 2 supermarket locations in Lynn, MA: Compare Super Market and Super Stop & Shop. Collectively, an incredible 447 pounds of food was collected. This collection will go on to provide 373 meals to the community members who are in need.
The Lynn Youth Health Alliance is a group of teens in Lynn that are determined to improve the well-being of their community. The Alliance is the result of a youth engagement initiative by the Lynn Food and Fitness Alliance and currently operates at 3 high schools in Lynn: St. Mary's High School, Lynn English High School, and Lynn Classical High School. The staff at Move For Hunger would like to commend this inspirational effort and applaud their successes.
The service from
the Lynn community on Martin Luther King Jr. Day didn't stop there! Two Men and A Truck moving company of Boston, MA provided the supplies and transportation that set this drive in motion. Once the collection had stopped, the team at Two Men and A Truck delivered all 447 pounds to the Greater Boston Food Bank where it will benefit those food insecure individuals of Boston and neighboring communities.
Currently in Essex County, there are 73,100 people who are food insecure, including 27,640 children. The staff at Move For Hunger would like to extend a large deal of appreciation to the Lynn Youth Health Alliance, Two Men and A Truck, Compare Super Market, Stop & Shop, and everyone who donated; your strong efforts and admirable dedication to advocate the community is a model for the nation. Can't wait to see what you are capable of next year!
