July Mover of the Month: White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery

August 16, 2016

Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are excited to announce that White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery is our Mover of the Month for July, 2016!

WhiteGloveJuly2015White Glove, based in Vero Beach, Florida, has been a member of the Move For Hunger program since June of 2013. Earlier this summer, they rallied over a dozen local businesses to host a massive food drive to fight hunger along Florida's Treasure Coast area.

The combined effort resulted in nearly 1,600 pounds of food being delivered to the Treasure Coast Food Bank during the time of year when it needs help the most.

White Glove has also played a big role in the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, when postal workers from all over the country urge their residents to leave donations of non-perishable food items on their porch or near their mailbox. Last year, White Glove volunteered its time and resources to pick-up & deliver over 8,000 lbs of food, which greatly eased the burden on the Treasure Coast Food Bank.

“The biggest benefit we get is the satisfaction in knowing how many families we are helping,” said Anna Valencia-Tillery, White Glove's Vice President of Marketing, in a recent interview. “The gratitude we receive from each member of the food bank’s staff is very encouraging and hearing what this does for the folks they serve warms our hearts."White Glove_sml2

Since becoming a member of the Move For Hunger family just over three years go, White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery has delivered 14,871 lbs of food – that’s the equivalent of 12,392 meals!

Congratulations to White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery on this much-deserved recognition. Thank you for commitment to reducing food waste and fighting hunger in the Sunshine State!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
