July 2014 Mover of the Month TR Westcan Inc.

August 20, 2014

MOTM - July 2014 _TR Westcan

In under 3 years, our July Mover of the Month has delivered enough food to the local food bank to provide a meal for 13,290 people. That's just one of the reasons we are happy to recognize TR Westcan Inc./ Tippet-Richardson of Calgary as our Mover of the Month for July of 2014.

Our friends to the North have shown their dedication and commitment since day one, and the crew at TR Westcan is no exception. They have taken part in 5 events in addition to their daily collection efforts from their customers.

"TR Westcan was one of our first moving companies in Canada and continues to show the same overwhelming enthusiasm and commitment as they did on day one." says Alex Marcus, Program Manger of Move For Hunger. "Laurie Cardwell, Business Development Specialist, is always quick to take on a new event and the whole team has been a pleasure to work with over the years."

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
