A Giant Partnership in the Fight Against Hunger!

November 11, 2015

Meet Andrew Rozzi!

Andrew works for Gentle Giant Moving Company, located in Boston, New York, Chicago, Seattle, Washington D.C., Charlotte, and San Francisco. “The core of our mission statement is to invest in employee growth and development, which in turn results in an exceptional customer experience. We want to make every customer a customer for life.” For 35 years Gentle Giant has strived to change the negative perception of the moving industry by hiring athletes and investing in their development and training to deliver exceptional service to customers. Gentle Giant has always worked with charitable organizations, like Move For Hunger. Andrew says, “we ally ourselves with organizations who require services that are in line with our core business.” This includes working with hunger outreach groups, aid for victims of domestic abuse, and our dedicated team called Hands of Change works with seniors that are moving to assisted living or downsizing due to loss in the family. So how Did Gentle Giant partner with Move For Hunger?

Andrew first learned about Move For Hunger when he was working in Washington D.C. and helped to launch the initial partnership for a pilot partnership in 2014. Gentle Giant aims to help in the communities that they do business, the model is simple and allows for sustained growth. Gentle Giant and Move For Hunger are a great match especially because the athletic community can participate in events hosted by Move For Hunger, like the Rock n Roll ½ Marathon. When asked how partnering with Move For Hunger has personally affected him, he responded saying the following. “Working for such a fantastic company is great. Learning the ins and outs of running a small business is great. But finding a partner with whom we can actually begin making meaningful change in the lives of those less fortunate in our city givers the great work a real sense of purpose.” After telling Andrew that Gentle Giant has collected 15,531 lbs of food to be donated from local food drives to a food bank, he said that the couldn’t be prouder!

Move For Hunger would like to extend a huge thank you to Gentle Giant for your partnership and all that they have done and will continue to do in the fight against hunger.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
