FX Fitness Food Drive Fights Hunger in Broadview Heights, Ohio!

FX Fitness of Broadview Heights, OH felt especially inspired by the holiday spirit this year. With the help of Move For Hunger, the gym hosted a month long food drive to benefit those in need this holiday season. The drive began on November 23rd. By December 23rd, the team at FX Fitness had collected 255 pounds of food-that is 213 meals for people who are facing food insecurity. fx fitness food drive 2015 2

Also feeling particularly generous, Armbruster Moving and Storage, Inc provided the supplies needed for the event. Additionally, the team at Armbuster Moving and Storage, Inc. transported the collection of food from the drive to the Chippewa Church at the Lake United Methodist Food Pantry.

Move For Hunger extends a huge congratulations to everyone who was involved in this event that made it so successful. There are 20,510 people in Medina County who are facing hunger. On behalf of Move For Hunger, we would like to thank you all for advocating the fight against this staggering statistic.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
