February Mover Of The Month

March 11, 2015

If consistemotm22015colemanlawton_featuredimagency is key, as the popular expression says, then Coleman American Moving Services in Lawton, Oklahoma is the master key. That is why Move For Hunger has recognized the Allied Van Lines service as our February Mover of the Month for 2015 for going above and beyond with their efforts in aiding hunger relief.

In its two years as a partner of Move For Hunger, the team at Coleman American-Lawton has epitomized consistency and stayed true to their pledge to fight hunger. Over that time they have made over 20 food donations totaling 1,750 pounds. This is enough food to help feed nearly 1,500 people.

Coleman American-Lawton’s charitable and generous nature can also be seen through its affiliation with the Armed Services YMCA. The ASYMCA is a non-profit agency that helps military members and their families in various ways, including hunger relief, financial supports, and quality childcare. Move For Hunger is proud to be partnered with an organization that supports the active and veteran armed forces of our country.

A lot of good has come out of our partnership with Coleman American-Lawton to this point. We are extremely excited to continue working with them in the future, and hope to make even more strides in the fight against hunger.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
