Excelsior Medical Corporation Food Drive Success!

Excelsior Medical Corporation Food Drive Success Story!

Fact: More than 140,000 people in Monmouth and Ocean Counties are living on incomes that put them at risk of hunger each month.  Forty percent of those at risk, are children.  Thousands in our community need your help.

Excelsior Medical Corporation had a food drive at both their Neptune and Freehold, NJ locations.   The  drive took place from October 14th through October 31st. Excelsior encouraged employees and general public to donate non-perishable food items to the  food drive, the Neptune location's goal was to collect 1000 Lbs of food. They sur-passed the goal by 242Lbs, collecting a total of 1,242 Lbs of food and theFreehold location collected 482 Lbs of food.   The company's total food donation weight was 1,742 Lbs!

Lowy's Moving and SeaCure Moving  were both very generous to help with delivering donations.  We would like to thank Excelsior Medical Corporation, Lowy's Moving, and SeaCuring Moving for their generosity and donations to the Monmouth and Ocean Counties Food Bank.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
