Daniel’s Moving and Storage assists with 5 different transports earning April’s Mover of the Month

May 17, 2021

Move for Hunger has so many moving partners across the country that tirelessly work to give back to their communities. We enjoy highlighting a mover each month that stood out, and showed hardwork and dedication when completing a food transport. We are delighted to announce that Mover of the Month for April 2021 is Daniel's Moving and Storage Inc

In April, Daniel’s Moving and Storage in Tuscon, Arizona, assisted with our Spring into Action campaign. Spring into Action is Move for Hunger’s campaign to encourage people to clean out those pantries and donate their unused, non-perishable food to those in need.

Donations tend to decline after the holidays and food banks face their biggest need during the spring and summer. Working with 5 different MC Companies properties in Tucson, Daniel’s Moving and Storage delivered almost 2,000 meals to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.

There are nearly 1 million food insecure individuals in Arizona prior to the pandemic including 1 in 5 kids. That number significantly increased when people lost their jobs. Due to the assistance of Daniel’s Moving and Storage and MC Companies, we’re combating that one meal at a time.

Daniel’s Moving and Storage has been a Move for Hunger partner since 2014 and has transported 85,000 meals over the last 7 years, in hopes of fighting hunger in Arizona. We appreciate all they do and are honored to call them our partner.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
