Clancy Relocation Collects 2,180 Pounds at Food for Friends Fill-A-Truck!

September 30, 2014

Clancy Relocation & Logistics decided to dedicate the weekend of September 19th to fighting hunger. Teaming up with local radio station Kicks 105.5, they hosted a Fill-A-Truck at a Stop and Shop in Somers, NY.truck-of-food-300x225

The three-day food drive was extremely successful. Radio Station Kicks 105.5 hosted a booth, playing music and promoting participation. The station encouraged donations as part of their Food for Friends campaign during Hunger Awareness Month.

At the close of the weekend, Clancy Relocation and Kicks 105.5 collected 2,180 pounds of non-perishable food. The food was then delivered to the Putnam Community Action Program which helps the low-income and at-risk residents of Putnam County.

This is a sizable donation that will greatly benefit Putnam CAP and save them the resources necessary to collect and pick up the food. Move For Hunger is proud to work with movers who are dedicated to helping those at risk for hunger!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
