Camelback Moving Donates $5,000 to Move For Hunger to Aid Local Food Insecure Communities

June 1, 2022

Camelback Moving, an independent professional moving company based in Pheonix, Arizona, donated a $5,000 check to Move For Hunger as part of the Arizona Moving Association Food Drive. This will provide 12,650 meals to those in need in Arizona!

Camelback Moving is a founding member of the Arizona Moving Association (AZMA) and a big supporter of Move For Hunger! The check was presented to Move For Hunger representative, Jackie Godlewski, by Chad Olsen of Camelback Moving, in mid-May.AZMA Food Drive 2022 - Camelback Moving.jpg

Camelback Moving also collected the most amount of donations throughout the food drive, nearing 400 lbs of donations, providing 330 meals to the St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance! This was Camelback Moving’s first event with Move For Hunger, but we’re looking forward to seeing the impact of future collaborations!

In total, the AZMA Food Drive brought in more than 19,000 meals to several local food banks. With over 900,000 food insecure individuals in the state of Arizona, every effort counts!

The Arizona Moving Association was created out of necessity during the pandemic as a result of daily changes to operations and procedures in the moving industry. With the challenges of COVID dissipating, the AZMA is furthering its mission to advocate, educate, and collaborate for successful moving operations in Arizona.

We are beyond thankful to Chad and the rest of the staff at Camelback Moving for the opportunity to continue to make an impact on their local food insecure communities! If you’d like to join our mover network, you can learn more here!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
