California Pizza Kitchen of Redondo Beach Collects Over 400 Lbs of Food for LA Community!

California Pizza Kitchen of Redondo Beach, CA has collaborated with Move For Hunger to deliver more than just pizza this Thanksgiving!

From November 17th to November 19th, California Pizza Kitchen hosted a food drive that collected an amazing 420 pounds of food. This collection provides 350 meals to those in need in Los Angeles. Congratulations to everyone at California Pizza Kitchen and all those who donated!

The staff at Move for Hunger would like to extend a thank you and congratulations to Ace Relocation Systems of Los Angeles, and Atlas member, who made this event possible by providing the supplies and delivery to the Food Bank of Southern California.

There are over 1 million people suffering from food insecurity in Los Angeles. The outstanding dedication and inspiring effort of events like the California Pizza Kitchen Food Drive of 2015 is the strongest weapon in fighting those numbers!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
