Beltmann Relocation Group of Phoenix Crushes 500 Pound Challenge Goal!

December 23, 2015

SONY DSCHere at Move For Hunger, we love a good challenge! Nothing gets people more excited than the opportunity to be the victor, especially when the challenge is to collect food for others in need. The Beltmann Relocation Group of Phoenix did exactly that. The office divided into 3 teams- "Household Heroes," "Commercial Commandos," and "Office Outliers (we love the names)- and the team who collected the most food leading up to the company holiday party would win a special company outing.

General Manager Steve Rinaldo was hoping to collect 500 pounds of food, and was delighted to see his crew more than double that goal. Together, nearly 1,300 pounds of food was collected and delivered to St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance! CONGRATS to the challenge winners, the Office Outliers, who collected over 630 pounds of non-perishable food!SONY DSC

1 in 4 children in Arizona are food insecure. Beltmann Relocation Group of Phoenix has been a member of Move For Hunger since July 2012. They have collected over 10,000 pounds of food, enough to provide more than 8,600 life-saving meals. A big “Thank You!” to the entire crew for all you do to help your community.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
