ASBURY PARK ZOMBIE WALK BREAKS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD AND FEEDS THOUSANDS!
On October 5th, Asbury Park held their annual Zombie Walk and Move For Hunger was there to collect donated food from our zombie supporters. Spirit Halloween, Costume Super Center, and Party Corner donated zombie makeup and Move For Hunger gave tickets for a free zombie makeup to all those who donated food! We partnered with Neptune High School's sophomore class and they applied makeup to tons of people, free of charge.
It was the first time many of our team had ever experienced such an event and we were all really impressed by the zombies enthusiasm for the walk and the food drive. There was a sort of electric excitement in the air and it was definitely contagious! Zombies of all ages showed up at the boardwalk; even zombie dogs were welcome! We were all incredibly impressed with the bravery of the children in attendance.

The costumes people wore were awesome, from police zombies to zombie brides and everything in between. Some costumes were more creative than others. Some of the best outfits included a zombie SpongeBob, a zombie Pope, and a whole slew of other outrageous zombie costume ideas. The zombie Muppets were also crowd favorites. And if zombie attire isn't your thing, there were plenty of zombie hunters and other affiliated costumes! With over 9,500 zombies, the previous Guinness Book World Record of 8,000 was broken and it was awesome to experience first hand!
The best part about the day was the sense of community among everyone at the Zombie Walk. All of the volunteers worked together and made the most of a long day.

A big thanks to Lowy's Moving Service, the local agent of Wheaton Van Lines for donating their truck and boxes for the day and for transporting all the food directly to the food bank.
The boardwalk shops and stores were packed and even the beach was mobbed. The zombies were friendly (when they weren't being scary!) and everyone was having a blast! There was plenty of entertainment, from independent musicians to magicians, all along the boardwalk and surrounding areas.
We ended up with an amazing turnout for our food collection, and collected over 3000 lbs. pounds of food! That is enough to provide well over 2,500 meals to those in need! All of the food was donated to the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean County.
Move for Hunger wants to thank everyone who donated, volunteered, and made this possible, especially Mrs. Markowski and the students of Neptune High School who worked super hard all day to get everyone covered in makeup! And a big congratulations to the organizers of the Zombie Walk for all of their hard work paying off and breaking the world record!
