April Mover of the Month: Stewart Moving and Storage

May 31, 2016

Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are delighted to announce that Stewart Moving and Storage is our Mover of the Month for April, 2016!

From April 3-9, Stewart Moving held food drives at their offices in Baltimore, Pensacola, Raleigh/Fayetteville, and Richmond. The combined effort yielded a total of 1,148 pounds of food, that's over 956 meals, to benefit food banks in their local communities.

Stewart Moving and Storage has embraced the Move For Hunger program to the fullest extent. In addition to collecting a tremendous amount of food, their enthusiasm and support on social media has helped spread awareness about our mission and encouraged others to get involved. Since becoming a Move For Hunger partner, Stewart Moving and Storage has collected over 33,000 lbs of food to benefit food pantries across the southeastern United States.

Congratulations to Stewart Moving and Storage on this much-deserved recognition. We are so grateful for you support!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
