AHEAD Gives Back with a Day of Giving, Providing Over 53,500 Meals for Communities in Need

October 7, 2022

AHEAD, Inc, a consulting company based in Chicago, recently held a ‘Day of Giving’ Food Drive and Fundraiser for their employees.

Throughout August, AHEAD employees across the United States were encouraged to donate, lead food drives, and volunteer to support   hunger-focused organizations. Move For Hunger was one of 18 lucky organizations to benefit from this initiative.298953159_484919033636830_5213047368968972339_n (1).jpeg

Overall, AHEAD employees raised an incredible $31,500 for Move For Hunger, which will provide nearly 80,000 meals to food-insecure communities across the country. In addition, a food drive was held at AHEAD’s Atlanta, Georgia office, which collected nearly 2,000 lbs of donations. The food drive will provide over 1,600 meals to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

With over 38 million Americans facing hunger every day, including 1 in 6 children, campaigns like AHEAD’s Day of Giving are able to make a significant impact on food insecure communities. A huge thank you also goes to the Beltmann Relocation Group in Atlanta, part of North American Van Lines, for transporting the donations.

This was AHEAD’s first event with Move For Hunger, and we are blown away by the incredible turnout. Thanks to everyone who participated and joined us in the fight against hunger.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
