Long Island Movers Honored For Commitment to Feed the Hungry

Each year we take the time to honor one of our movers from across the continent for their efforts to feed struggling families in their community. It's never easy to pick out one stand out mover from our network of over 560 across the United States and Canada. The truth is, every mover taking part in our fight against hunger deserves the same type of recognition.

There are just so many outstanding relocation companies making a difference across our network. Not many businesses outside of the non-profit world use their resources to help struggling individuals on a daily basis. Every year the votes are close and this year was no exception. The movers were selected based on the total pounds donated, the number of donations, enthusiasm, willingness to help at food drives and overall support for Move For Hunger.  motybanner

HallLaneCrewHall Lane first joined Move For Hunger way back in November of 2010. Early on they proved more than capable of collecting food from their customers, bringing donations to their local food bank, Long Island Cares every month. Over the years they have consistently shown to be one of the most committed and enthusiastic movers in our network. They never hesitate to help the food bank at a moments notice or take part in one of our many food drives across Long Island from the Hampton's to New York City.

In 2013 alone, they have delivered over 11,000 pounds of food to Long Island Cares. Enough to feed over 9,000 people in Long Island. They've assisted in transportation for 7 food drives and continue to build a great relationship with the staff of the food bank. Their tremendous effort brings hope to the thousands across that Long Island that do not have enough to eat and we hope you all will join us in congratulating Hall Lane Moving & Storage as the Mover of the Year for 2013.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
