Beltmann Relocation Group Customer Service Rep. Spearheads Month-Long Food Drive

August 2, 2018

Time and time again, our Move For Hunger supporters across the country prove that all it takes is one person to make a huge difference.

This July, Jennifer Rodriquez, a customer service representative at Beltmann Relocation Group's branch in Pompano Beach, FL, spearheaded a month-long food drive. Many questioned her timing in undertaking such a project, as July is usually one of the busiest months of the year in the moving business. Nevertheless, Rodriguez believed that a busy month could allow for more exposure to more customers. With a goal of collecting 500 pounds of food, Rodriquez made it her mission to help fight summer hunger in South Florida.

BeltmannRelocationGroup_Logo-500x241.png“Not only did she engage co-workers, crew members, and customers, but she also reached out to our vendors,” said Danny Montgomery, the general manager of Beltmann Relocation Group’s South Florida Branch. “In addition to a great response from co-workers, crew members, and customers, we received donations from New Haven, Cummings Leasing, Ship Smart and Emerald Towing.”

Montgomery also noted that Jackie Vagle did a lot of behind-the-scenes work to help make this event possible. Thanks to their hard work and dedication to the cause, the food drive was even more successful than expected.

“I am happy to report the goal of 500 pounds was shattered,” Montgomery says. “We collected a total of 1,175 pounds.”

Beltmann movers delivered all of the donations to Boca Helping Hands in Boca Raton. These donations will help provide meals to the more than 265,000 people, including 1 in 5 children, who are food-insecure in Broward County.

Rodriquez’s efforts earned her a nomination for Beltmann’s “Be the Customer” employee recognition program. The award is primarily directed at recognizing efforts made by Beltmann’s drivers and crews that go above and beyond servicing customers, but Beltmann employees of all positions are eligible for a nomination.

“While it does not meet the literal sense of the award, I believe it does meet the spirit of the award,” Montgomery says of Rodriquez’s nomination.

Congratulations to Jennifer Rodriquez - thank you for taking action to fight hunger in your community! And a big thank you to Beltmann Relocation Group for continuing to be a dedicated and valued supporter of Move For Hunger!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
