White Castle Holds Food Drives at 16 Locations in Minnesota

February 20, 2018

In December, we partnered with White Castle to hold food drives at 16 restaurants in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area! Non-perishable food and monetary donations were collected at the registers. Any customer who made a donation received a free 21 oz. beverage!

In Forest Lake, the crew collected 80 lbs. of food, which is enough to provide 66 meals. The team not only collected the donations but also personally delivered the boxes to Family Pathways Food Shelf.

The Hinkley location gathered 80 lbs. of food, which is approximately 66 meals. The donations were delivered by the crew to the local food bank, Family Pathways Food Shelf-Sandstone.

White Castle of Oak Park Heights, donate 50 lbs. of food which equals 40 mealsDaymakers Moving and Storage provided the donation boxes and delivered the donations to the River Falls Community Food Pantry.

In Inner Grove Heights, the location collectively received 84 lbs. of canned goods, which can produce 70 meals. Alexanders Mobility Services of Minneapolis, an Atlas agent, joined the locations efforts by providing and transporting the donations to the non-profit social agency, Neighbors, Inc.

White Castles in Maple Grove and Brooklyn Park each gathered  75 lbs. of food, which translates to 60 meals. Donations were delivered by Right Choice Movers to Second Harvest Heartland West.

Collectively Blaine, Bloomington, Coon Rapids, Hopkins, Minneapolis, and three St. Paul locations accumulated 1,430 lbs. of donations, which equals 1,200 meals that will benefit families in need within the area! Beltmann Relocation Group of St. Paul assisted with each of these events by providing and delivering the donation boxes to Second Harvest Heartland Food Bank

At the conclusion of the incredibly successful food drive, more than 1,500 lbs. of food was donated by the White Castles in the region, which will provide 1,300 meals to families who are facing hunger in the Twin Cities area. Nearly 460,000 people in the region are food insecure, including 1 in 7 children.

Thank you to all 16 participating White Castle locations, Daymakers Moving and Storage, Alexander Mobility Services, Right Choice Movers, Beltmann Relocation Group, and all those who contributed to the drive!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
