Weichert Workforce Mobility Collects 1,650 LBS. of Peanut Butter & Jelly

August 23, 2019

Earlier this year, Weichert Workforce Mobility became an official Partner and pledged to support our hunger relief and food rescue programs nationwide.

“I believe that this will be a fantastic addition to Weichert’s current Corporate Social Responsibility efforts and most importantly allows us to do our part to help feed hungry people throughout the U.S.,” said William Vogt, Director, North American Operations.

Weichert is a company that believes in giving to others, “in times of change, in times of need, and in times of difficulty” and our partnerhship is proof of that ethos. When we announced our alliance back in April, Weichert made a commitment to continue to build upon our partnership by encouraging their suppliers and network to join the fight against hunger and participate in food drives throughout the year. They didn’t wait long to fulfill that promise.

In June, Weichert Workforce Mobility offices across the United States in Canada held Peanut Butter & Jelly food drivesto help fight hunger during the summer months. The end of the school year presents additional challenges to food insecure families. When classes end, millions of kids can no longer count on the breakfast and lunches they had been receiving at school. So families increasingly turn to food banks to help replace those meals. Peanut Butter is an ideal donation during this time of year because it’s kid-friendly, protein-rich, and shelf stable.

Weichert Workforce Mobility’s corporate office in Morris Plains spearheaded the effort and was joined by 9 other branches: Boston, MA, Calgary, AB, Chicago, IL, Houston, TX, Miami, FL, Newport Beach, CA, San Francisco, CA, Toronto, ON, and Woodbridge, VA. Together, they collected 1,120 lbs. of food, which is enough to provide 930 meals!

In each city, a member of the Move For Hunger network volunteered to pick up the donations and delivered them to a local food bank. Thank you to the crews from Alexander’s Mobility Service (Newport Beach & San Francisco), Armstrong Moving (Toronto), Armstong Relocation of Randolph (Morris Plains),  Atlantic Relocation Systems (Houston), Gentle Giant Moving Company (Boston), Beltmann Relocation Group (Chicago), Coleman Worldwide Moving (Miami & Woodbridge), and Two Small Men with Big Hearts (Calgary).

The team from Armstrong Moving in Toronto was so inspired by the effort that they even organized their own PB&J food drive. They collected 530 lbs. of food, which raised the overall total of the campaign to 1,650 lbs!

Millions of people in the United States and Canada face hunger each day. Thank you to Weichert Workforce Mobility for helping to provide meals for people in the communities you serve, and for encouraging others to join the fight.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
