Von Paris Moving & Storage Makes First Donation, Provides 110 Meals

April 30, 2020

Von Paris Moving & Storage, a North American Van Lines agent based in Savage, MD, made their first two donations to help fight hunger during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past two weeks, Von Paris Moving & Storage has delivered 140 lbs. of non-perishable food to the Howard County Food Bank, which will provide 110 meals to their neighbors in need.

Von Paris Moving & Storage was able to make a difference during this difficult time because they have incorporated charitable giving into their day-to-day operations. As a member of the Move For Hunger network, they are asking customers to donate their unopened, non-perishable food on moving day. Then, the Von Paris Moving crew volunteers to deliver it to the local food bank at no additional charge. It's a simple, sustainable way to make a difference, and that's why more than 1,000 moving companies all across the United States and Canada are now encouraging everyone to "donate your food when you move."

The Howard County Food Bank, like emergency food providers nationwide, has seen a significant increase in the demand for their services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 20,000 people in the county, including 1 in 7 children, were food insecure even before the coronavirus outbreak, and those numbers have increased significantly over the past 2 months. We are so thankful that Von Paris Moving & Storage for continuing to collect and donate food during this time of great need.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has left a massive economic impact and has drastically increased the need for emergency food assistance nationwide. Move For Hunger is actively searching for ways to meet the demand, but we're going to need your help.

If you can, please consider making a donation to Move For Hunger. With your support, we'll be able to rapidly respond and mobilize our network in communities across the United States and Canada.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
