Tippet-Richardson Moving & Storage of Calgary Fills a Truck with 380 Pounds of Food!

June 28, 2017

The movers over at Tippet-Richardson Moving & Storage played their part in the fight against hunger this past weekend during their Fill-A-Truck food drive in Calgary, Alberta.

The event was held outside of the local Save-On-Foods supermarket, where one of Tippet-Richardson's moving trucks was parked. The idea behind a "Fill-A-Truck" (or F.A.T. for short) food drive is to challenge shoppers and the surrounding community to donate enough non-perishable food to fill the truck!

Tippet-Richardson's F.A.T proved to be a successful way for the community to give back, as the event brought in 380 pounds of food -- enough for 315 meals! All of the donations were delivered by Tippet Richardson's crew to the Calgary Food Bankwhere 4 in 10 of the clients are children.

Tippet-Richardson Moving & Storage of Vancouver also held a Fill-A-Truck food drive back in May which led to the collection of 60 pounds of food -- which is enough to provide 50 meals for those in need! A big thank you to Tippet-Richardson Moving & Storage for their continued support of our fight against hunger!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
