Team Move For Hunger Highlight - Anne Elyse

March 5, 2019

Our Team Move For Hunger highlight comes from a new member in our multi-family program. Anne Elyse from Gates Hudson will be tackling the Rock 'n' Roll DC 1/2 Marathon this coming Saturday and is ready to turn her miles into meals.

Anne began running after moving to Northern Virginia in 2012 and used it as a way to get to know her new area. After discovering miles of running trails through her community, she hasn't slowed down and uses this time to think, listen to music and podcasts, and just be quiet. She's already raised $500 for our hunger relief and food waste reduction programs and is excited to be involved in the cause. Gates Hudson recently began working with Move For Hunger and has already signed on their properties to become one of our biggest supporters in our Multi-Family Program. Once Anne became aware of the mission, she jumped at the chance to raise money and run at the same time.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT ANNE AND HAVE A GREAT RACE!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
