SuiteAmerica Holds Backs to School Food Drive

November 20, 2019

Our partners from SuiteAmerica are always doing what they can to help people who are struggling with hunger. From August 12-September 9, the staff at their corporate office  El Dorado Hills, CA and from the branch in Portland, OR both organized a Back to School food drives! Employees were encouraged to donate peanut butter, jelly, applesauce, trail mix, granola, and other kid-friendly snacks to help fill lunchboxes in their community. A grand total of 680 lbs. of food was donated between the two locations, which is enough to provide 1566 meals!

Our partners at and Mother Lode Van & Storage and Lile Relocation Services of Portland helped out by volunteering to pick up all of the donations and delivering them to the Orangevale Food Bank and the Oregon Food Bank, respectively.

SuiteAmerica has been a partner of Move For Hunger since 2017. To show their support and help fight hunger nationwide, SuiteAmerica has held food drives at locations all around the country and they are raising awareness about our cause everywhere they do business.

There are 40 million Americans who are facing hunger, including 1 in 6 children. Thank you to everyone at SuiteAmerica, Mother Lode Van & Storage, and Lile Relocation Services for your continued support!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
