Stewart Moving and Storage Fills-A-Truck with 400+ LBS. of Food!

October 23, 2017

There are a few reasons that a "Fill-A-Truck" is our favorite type of food drive.

First, because we work with more than 750 moving companies all across the United States and Canada, we have the ability to hold these events just about anywhere.

Second, moving trucks, in case you haven't noticed, are pretty big. They are a great way to grab people's attention and can hold A LOT of food.  And since we are loading the donations right onto the truck, it's that much easier to deliver it to the local food bank.

Finally, because we typically hold these events outside of a grocery store, there's more than enough non-perishable food available to fill the trailer. All we need to do is convince the customers to purchase a couple of cans of soup or jars of peanut butter while they shop, and drop it in our collection boxes on their way out.

Fill-A-Trucks are an easy way to collect hundreds of pounds of food in a short period of time, which is exactly what Stewart Moving and Storage of Jacksonville did on October 14.  In just four hours, their crew was able to collect 445 lbs of food -- enough to provide 340 meals -- at the Publix in Ponte Vedra. All of the donations were delivered to Feeding Northeast Florida, which distributes meals to more than 180 community partners in the region.

"We are always willing to give a helping hand in order to give back to our community," said Stefan Cordeiro, Stewart Moving and Storage's President.

Thank you to the team at Stewart Moving and Storage, Publix, and everyone who made a donation for helping to fight hunger in Florida!

We'd love to help you plan a Fill-A-Truck food drive at a grocery store near you. Let's get started today!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
