$12,010 Raised at the San Diego Truck Pull!

March 2, 2020

There's an extra day in 2020 and we weren't about to let it go to waste!

On February 29, we held the San Diego Truck Pull at AleSmith Brewing Co., marking the first time that we've ever hosted our signature fundraising event in the Golden State. Teams of 5-10 people competed to see who could pull an Ace Relocation Systems truck 100 feet the fastest! A grand total of $12,010 was donated to support our hunger relief and food rescue programs - which will allow us to provide 28,000 additional meals this year!

SanDiegoTruckPull2020-Web1.jpgDragging an 8-ton moving truck with your bare hands is never an easy task, but the pleasant southern California weather we had on Leap Day definitely lightened to the load a little bit. Nine teams tested their might, and all put up a valiant effort, but at the end of the day, Team Saved Not Soft was named our Truck Pull Champions!

This was our first truck pull of 2020, and it simply would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors: Ace Relocation Systems, Dewitt Move WorldwideReloTrans Auto TransportSullivan Solar PowerCDS Moving EquipmentJohnson's Storage and MovingRepublic Moving & StorageBlue ChipCalifornia RelocationNational Insurance Housing, and PC Housing.

SanDiegoTruckPull2020-Web6.jpgThe only thing more difficult than pulling a truck may be planning the Truck Pull itself! We are so incredibly grateful to the members of the San Diego Truck Pull Committee, especially Craig Morreale, Jeremy Day, and Jeff Nadeau, for all of the time and passion they put into this event.

AleSmith Brewing Company was the perfect venue for the Truck Pull and we can't thank the staff enough for being such gracious hosts.

And, last but not least, we have to thank all of the teams we pushed themselves to the limit by pulling together to help us reduce food waste and fight hunger.

Our next truck pull will be held in the City of Brotherly Love, as AVE presents the first-ever Philadelphia Truck Pull. We're really excited for this one, because it's going to be hosted by Philadelphia Eagles cornerback, Sidney Jones! We hope to see you there!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
