Ramar Moving Systems Fills a Truck with 3,000 LBS. of Food!

December 13, 2018

TheRamarCompaniesFoodDrive2018 (1).JPGThere are more than 665,000 people in the state of Maryland who are food insecure, including 1 in 7 children. The stat is scary, but the good thing is that companies like Ramar Moving Systems are recognizing the urgency of the problem and taking action.

The Ramar team has been a part of our network for years, but this November they hosted their very first food drive. Their goal? To completely fill a truck with nonperishable food items and deliver them to the Frederick Rescue Mission.

It was a great way to kick off the holiday season, for sure, and we are very happy to report that their goal was reached! Ramar Moving Systems collected an awesome 3,060 pounds of food, which is enough to provide 2,550 meals for Maryland families in need.

Fill-A-Truck food drives are an easy way to collect lots of food in just a few hours, which is why they are so exciting! They are also perfect for our movers, considering they already have trucks on hand. Thank you so much to Ramar Moving Systems for taking the time to make a difference. All the food you have collected will change the lives of so many people in your community, and we are so proud to have been a part of it!

Want to host a Fill-A-Truck event but don't have a truck? We've got you covered.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
