Promark Partners and CORT Help Fight Hunger During the Holidays

March 20, 2019

Promark Partners held a Season of Giving Food Drive throughout the month of December at six of their properties in Washington, D.C., Conroe, TX, and Morgantown, WV. A grand total of 435 lbs. of food was collected, which wil provide 360 meals for their neighbors in need!

The CORT branches in Houston and Washington, D.C. transported donations to their local food banks. The staff from Timberline Apartments personally delivered their collections to their local food bank.

Our partners from CORT are always willing to lend a helping hand. They have collected and transported a lifetime total of 28,885 lbs. of non-perishable food items, which is the equivalent 24,000 meals!

Promark Partners is a member of our Multi-Family Program. People throw away a lot of things when they move, including perfectly good food! We’re now partnering with more than 850 multi-family locations all over the country to make sure this food does not go to waste.

When a resident gives notice that they will be moving out, the property managers provide them with a program letter and a food collection bag. They are encouraged to donate any non-perishable food items that they will not be taking.

Once a property has collected a few bags, they contact us, and we connect them with a local transportation partner who will pick up the donations and deliver them to a local food bank.

More than 41 million people in the United States, including 1 in 6 children, go to bed hungry every night. Thank you to Promark Partners and CORT for giving back during the holiday season!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
