Prodesse Property Group Holds the Sharknado of all Shark Week Food Drives

August 9, 2018

This past July, we challenged everyone to celebrate Shark Week by hosting food drives to help fight hunger all over the country.

Prodesse Property Group sank their teeth right into this challenge! Their corporate office, as well as 45 of their apartment properties in California, held Shark Week food drives, by encouraging their staff/residents to bring in donations of canned tuna and canned salmon, which are both highly requested items by food banks.

All 46 of the Prodesse locations brought in more than 1,450 pounds of food combined, enough to provide 1,200 meals for their neighbors in need! In California alone, 1 in 9 people are food insecure, including 1 in 6 children, so it’s great to see local communities coming together like this to help change these stats!

A huge thank you goes out to Prodesse Property Group for organizing this successful event , and another big thank you goes out to AMS Relocation, a Bekins agent, for generously volunteering their time to pick up donations at five different locations and deliver them all to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
