Pete's Moving Services Holds 2nd Fill-A-Truck of 2018!

December 21, 2018

Pete's Moving Services helped us get 2018 off to a great start AND made sure we finished strong! The National Van Lines agents earned Mover of the Month honors after hosting their first-ever Fill-A-Truck way back on January 20, and that event was such a success that they could hardly wait to do it again!

The Modesto, CA movers had originally planned to hold the food drive during the weekend before Thanksgiving but, unfortunately, it had to be postponed due to the wildfires. With thousands of families displaced as a result of the disaster, Pete's Moving Services knew it was more important than ever to give back to the communities they serve.

Although they didn't quite get a full load, the crew did manage to collect more than 225 lbs. of food, which will provide 185 meals for their neighbors in need! Pete's Moving then delivered all of the donations to the Second Harvest Food Bank of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties, which partners 90 agencies in the region.

More than 217,000 people, including 1 in 5 children, in the Central Valley face hunger each day. Thank to you everyone at Pete's Moving Services for taking action, all year long!

We want to help YOU host a food drive, too! Let’s get started today!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
