October 2019 Mover of the Month: Matco Moving Solutions of Edmonton

Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are excited to announce that Matco Moving Solutions of Edmonton has been named our Mover of the Month for October 2019!

Matco Moving Solutions has only been a partner with Move For Hunger since February 2019, but they have already made a huge impact! Their eight locations throughout Canada have collected almost 90,000 lbs. of food, providing approximately 75,000 meals to food insecure families in Canada!

Matco Moving Solutions in Edmonton held their first food drive in October and it was a huge success! The employees and the Edmonton community rallied and ultimately Matco collected 31,552 lbs. of food that went directly to Edmonton’s Food Bank, providing more than 26,000 meals to their neighbors in need.

Edmonton’s Food Bank works to help the 12.6% of food insecure households in Alberta, including 1 in 6 children. They do this through their Retail Food, Hamper, Meal & Snack, and Second Helping programs, which all go to provide meals directly to families in their service area. They also address the issues associated with food insecurity with their Beyond Food Program that offers employment assistance, education assistance, help with creating household budgets, and personal counseling because fighting hunger is not just about providing a meal. It is also about connecting food insecure Alberta residents with the resources they need to enjoy a greater quality of life, and reduce dependency on emergency food resources over time.
