New England Relocation Association Holds Peanut Butter & Jelly Food Drive

July 17, 2019

Our friends at the New England Relocation Association (NERA) held a Peanut Butter and Jelly Food Drive during their meeting on June 6. Several members of the Move For Hunger network also belong to NERA, which provides a forum for relocation professionals to expand their knowledge about the industry. They are also passionate about giving back to the communities they serve!

A total of 140 lbs. of peanut butter and jelly was collected during the meeting, which should provide more than 100 meals for their neighbors in need! Peanut butter and jelly are always among the most highly-requested items by food banks, because peanut butter is high in protein and both items typically have a long shelf life. NERA also donated $1,000 to Move For Hunger to help support our programs!

Mike DeLello of Humboldt Storage & Moving attended the meeting and volunteered to deliver the donations to the Canton Food Pantry.

More than 616,000 in Massachusetts are food insecure, including 1 in 9 children.

Thank you to NERA and Humboldt Storage & Moving for working together to make a difference! We can help you hold your own food drive!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
