MSI Global Talent Solutions Cans their CEO Again!

August 7, 2019

In the Spring of 2018, the staff at MSI Global Talent Solutions CANNED their CEO by filling his office with more than 1,200 lbs. of non-perishable food donations. It looks like Timm Runnion didn't get the message the first time, because it just happened again!

From April 1-June 14, everyone at MSI was encouraged to bring in donations of canned goods, peanut butter, pasta, cereal, and other non-perishables to help fight hunger in New Hampshire. The goal, once again, was to collect so much that Timm wouldn't even be able to get inside his office! Although they didn't quite match last year's total, the MSI team still collected an impressive 700 lbs. of food, which is enough to provide 580 meals for their neighbors in need! Our friends from Gentle Giant Moving Company in Portsmouth generously donated boxes for the food drive AND volunteered to pick up and deliver all of the donations to GATHER.

CAN the CEO is one of our favorite food drives because, despite the title, it's an initiative that shows just how strong a company's culture is. For a few weeks, everyone works together in an effort to give back to the communities they serve - and have a little fun at the boss's expense while they're at it!

More than 122,000 people in New Hampshire, including 1 in 8 children, are food insecure. Thank you to MSI Global Talent Solutions and Gentle Giant Moving Company for your commitment to our cause.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
