The Moving Factor Steps Up its Fight Against Hunger in Fort Worth

December 5, 2017

As a teacher, Stephanie Factor said that she always had opportunities to give back to her community. Her husband, Sean, founded The Moving Factor back in 2011, and Stephanie now helps manage the day-to-day operations of the business. She’s since learned that it can be hard to run a business and find the time to do charitable work. Being a member of the Move For Hunger network, however, allows her to do both.

“We can do so much because it’s part of what we do every day,” she said.

The Moving Factor has been a member of our program since last summer and has developed a strong relationship with the Tarrant Area Food Bank. When people in the Fort Worth, TX area host food drives, the Food Bank will often ask The Moving Factor if they can send a truck to pick up the donations. This arrangement allows the Food Bank to allocate their limited resources elsewhere and provides The Moving Factor with plenty of chances to help their neighbors in need.

“If the food bank calls and asks for our help, we’ll happily send someone,” Factor said.

That willingness to volunteer when needed has made The Moving Factor one of the most prolific members of our network this fall. Since September, their crew has delivered more than 22,0000 lbs. of non-perishable food the Tarrant Area Food Bank, which is enough to provide more than 18,000 meals.

Factor initially viewed joining Move For Hunger as a marketing effort. After all, doing good is good for business. Customers appreciate that The Moving Factor makes it easy for them to donate their food when they move. But Factor says that being part of the program means so much more now that she realizes what a difference her company can make.

“I love it, and the crew likes that they are able to help, too.”

Thank you to Stephanie, Sean, and the rest of The Moving Factor team for the important work you are doing to fight hunger in Fort Worth!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
