Moving Ahead Services Collects 1,600 Pounds of Food!

December 16, 2016

Moving Ahead Services hosted hosting a holiday food drive at their locations in Willoughby and Columbus, Ohio from November 28-December 16. Employees, customers, and members of the local community donated non-perishable food items to help provide meals for their community this holiday season.

Together, the two branches collected 1,600 pounds of food– that’s enough to provide over 1,300 meals for their neighbors in need!

Moving Ahead Services personally delivered all of the donations to United Way of Lake County and the United Way of Central Ohio.

Nearly 2 million people, including 1 in 5 children, in Ohio face hunger each day. Through the support of partners like Moving Ahead Services, Move For Hunger can continue to help the almost 50 million Americans struggling to find their next meal. Thank you Moving Ahead Services for your commitment to fighting hunger!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
