Mover Milestone | Colorado Hi-Tec Moving & Storage Has Delivered 50,000 LBS. of Food

August 27, 2018

DENVER, CO Colorado Hi-Tec Moving & Storage has been recognized by Move For Hunger, a national non-profit organization, for delivering 50,000 pounds of food – enough to provide 41,000 meals – to the Food Bank of the Rockies.

People tend to throw a lot of “stuff” away when they move, including perfectly good food. As part of Move For Hunger’s national network of relocation professionals, Colorado Hi-Tec Moving & Storage provides their customers with the opportunity to donate unopened, non-perishable food during the moving process and volunteers to deliver the donations to the food bank, free of charge.

“More than 627,000 people in Colorado are food insecure and, yet, 40% of the food produced in the United States each year is wasted,” said Adam Lowy, Executive Director of Move For Hunger. “Colorado Hi-Tec Moving & Storage is working every day to address both issues. We are so grateful for their support.”

“Move For Hunger is a perfect fit for us,” said Karen Dickens of Colorado Hi-Tec Moving & Storage. “We can't think of a better way to consistently give back to the community.”

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
