Move For Hunger Announces Partnership with IOR Global Services

March 24, 2020

Red Bank, NJ, Mar. 24, 2020 – Move For Hunger and IOR Global Services, a leading provider of global mobility and talent development solutions designed to advance employee effectiveness across cultures, have announced a new partnership to reduce food waste and fight hunger.

People throw away a lot of things when they move, including perfectly good food. Move For Hunger’s network of more than 1,000 moving companies, more than 1,500 multi-family apartment communities, and many of the world’s leading relocation management companies, volunteers to collect this unopened, non-perishable food and delivers it to their local food banks. To date, the Move For Hunger network has collected and delivered more than 16.6 million pounds of food – providing more than 13.8 million meals – to food banks and pantries across the United States and Canada.

As partners, IOR will support Move For Hunger’s food rescue programs and will encourage the clients, associations, and property management companies they work with to integrate the Move For Hunger model into their relocation policies.

“More than 40 million Americans are facing hunger, but we are wasting 40% of the food in the United States every year,” said Adam Lowy, Move For Hunger’s Executive Director/Founder. “With IOR’s support, we can reach more people, rescue more food, and put more meals on the table for people who are struggling to make ends meet.”

“IOR’s employees are passionate about giving back. This partnership with Move for Hunger provides outstanding opportunities for our team to donate food and raise funds that will make a significant difference in people’s lives,” said Rob Burns, IOR’s Chief Executive Officer.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
