Move For Hunger and Hungryroot Provide 15,000 Meals to Food Banks Across the U.S.

April 23, 2020

Earlier this month, Hungryroot reached out to Move For Hunger and asked if we could help. The online grocery service had 40,000 units of Lemon Artichoke Quinoa Cups that they wanted to donate to support the communities where their facilities are located and felt that we were the perfect partner to help!

MorseMovingHungryRootDonation2020.jpgThree members of the Move For Hunger network, from all across the United States, volunteered to assist with these deliveries. Our partners from Gentle Giant Moving Company transported 12,600 lbs. of product to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. In the Midwest, the crew from Morse Moving & Storage of Indianapolis delivered 2,700 lbs. of quinoa cups to Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. And on the west coast, the team from Ace Relocation Systems in Los Angeles transported 2,800 lbs. of product to the Orange County Food Bank

This was the first time that we have ever collaborated with Hungryroot, and their offer could not have come at a better time. Food banks nationwide are serving more people than ever before as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, Move For Hunger and Hungryroot provided more than 15,000 healthy meals to children, families, seniors, and vulnerable communities during this unprecedented crisis.

Thank you so much to Hungryroot for this generous donation. We hope we can continue to find ways to work together and support people who are facing hunger during this difficult time.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has left a massive economic impact and has drastically increased the need for emergency food assistance nationwide. Move For Hunger is actively searching for ways to meet the demand, but we're going to need your help.

If you can, please consider making a donation to Move For Hunger. With your support, we'll be able to rapidly respond and mobilize our network in communities across the United States and Canada.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
