More than $19,000 raised at IAM Pack-a-Palooza!

October 22, 2019

At this year's International Association of Movers meeting in Chicago, we organized the first-ever Pack-A-Palooza competition, presented by Enterprise Database Corporation. Moving professionals from around the globe faced-off to see who could load a corregated liftvan with empty boxes the fastest.

IAMPackapaloozaConference2019-EDC (1).jpgMovers are pretty good at packing boxes into a truck -- it's what they do. But experience only counts for so much when you're in the spotlight and racing against the clock! Teams of 2 had to scan a series of boxes with Enterprise Database Corporation's inventory app and load them into the lift van. They had to use all of the boxes they were provided, and the boxes all had to be level. When they had finished packing the van, both team members had to ring a buzzer to officially stop the clock.

When all was said and done, the team from Sourdough Transfer came in first place and are now, officially, the fastest packers in the world!

More than $19,000 was raised at the event to support our hunger relief and food rescue programs. And none of it would have been possible without the support of Enterprise Database Corporation and our sponsors from FlateRate Moving, Dewitt Move Worldwide, and Victory Packaging, who generously devoted the boxes and lift vans. Thank you all for your support!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
