More Than 19,000 LBS. of Food Donated During Shark Week

Move For Hunger took a bite out of hunger this summer by organizing 222 food drives during Shark Week!

AngelineApartmentsSharkWeekFoodDRive2019 (1).jpgMembers of our Mover & Multi-Family programs, our partners, and other organizations all volunteered to collect cans of tuna and other non-perishable items to help fight summer hunger. More than 19,000 lbs. of food was collected during this nationwide campaign, which provided more than 16,200 meals for families and children who are facing hunger.

Bekins Northwest of Spokane,in partnership with the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, led the way by collecting more than 1,100 lbs. Bekins Northwest delivered all of the food to Second Harvest Food Bank of Spokane - those donations provided more than 960 meals to their neighbors in need.

Our partners from Altair Global came in a close second, collecting more than 1,000 lbs. of at their corporate headquarters in Plano, TX. A special thanks to Nelson Westerberg of Texas for delivering these donations directly to the North Texas Food Bank, providing more than 850 meals to residents in the region. 

A local organization finished 3rd, as our fellow New Jerseyeans from the Brick Elks Lodge collected 850 lbs. of food, which they generously volunteered to transport to the local food bank. This provided food insecure families in Ocean County, NJ with more than 700 meals!  All New Jersey Elks Clubs participated in Shark Week food drive, and collected a whopping 3,053 lbs. of food combined. Thank you to our friends from The Moving Guys, Anchor Moving & Storage, Big G Movers, and Serenity Movers for providing transportation assistance to some of the Elks clubs, as well! 

Brick Elks donations .jpgMove For Hunger would like to thank Shark Week Food Drive Partners whose company-wide efforts made a huge impact! Trinity Property Consultants collected 461 lbs. of food at 13 locations across Missouri, Nevada and Arizona. Thank you to our transportation partners CORT and Low Budget Movers for delivering donations to their local food banks. Real Estate partner, Homes.com, collected 723 lbs. of food from campaigns held in their Norfolk, VA, Boca Raton and Tallahassee, FL, and San Diego, CA offices. Thanks to Stewart Moving and Storage of Portsmouth, Pack On The Go, AMWAT Moving & Warehousing, and Move Central, for volunteering to deliver the donations to the local food banks.

Chase Bank in Phoenix, AZ and Columbus, OH collected 652 lbs. of food and collected $975.00 in donations. S&M Moving Systems and Guardian Relocation of Columbus provided transportation support by delivering over 550 meals to St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix and the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, respectively. Additiionally, more than 20 RMK Management properties throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Minnesota collected 781 lbs. of non-perishables. We are so grateful to our transportation partners that generously provide delivery services for that effort: Atlantic Relocation Systems/Noffs of Chicago, CORT Minneapolis, and CORT Chicago.

More than 40 million Americans including 1 in 6 children are facing hunger. Thank you to all companies that participated in Shark Week Food Drives in 2019 to help us fight hunger nationwide!
