Mesa Moving & Storage Raises $600 at the Tour of Utah

October 4, 2019

Mesa Moving & Storage of Salt Lake City, Utah hosted an amazing fundraiser at this year’s Tour of Utah!

Mesa Moving has been a proud sponsoring partner of The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, one of the top professional cycling events in North America, for several years.

“Throughout the week-long race in August, Mesa performs moving services and transportation of equipment from stage to stage,” explained Susan Richards, Mesa Moving & Storage’s Marketing Coordinator.

This year, Mesa also held a raffle to win a  Flite 750 racing bike at their booth during days 5, 6, and 7 of the event. Anyone who wanted a chance to win a donation was asked to make a donatuon to Move For Hunger. A grand total of $600 was raised to support our hunger relief and food rescue programs! Lisa Buccambugo and her children were the lucky winners.

Mesa Moving joined Move For Hunger in 2016, and have been helping us reduce food waste and fight hunger ever since. More than 373,000 people, including 1 in 7 children, in Utah are food insecure. We are so grateful that Mesa Moving & Storage recognizes the urgency of the crisis and is willing to take action!

Your support keeps us moving – please consider making a $25 donation to help fund our next food drive.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
