May 2020 Mover of the Month: Premium Q Moving & Storage

June 3, 2020

Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are excited to announce that Premium Q Moving & Storage, has been named our Mover of the Month for May 2020!

For the past 7 weeks, Premium Q Moving & Storage has been doing their part to help fight hunger in Massachusetts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Every Monday, they volunteer to pick up donations from the Greater Boston Food Bank and deliver it to Project Soup, a food pantry which is affiliated with the Greater Somerville Homeless Coalition (GSHC). In May, the Premium Q Moving & Storage crew delivered more than 14,600 lbs. of food to the pantry, which is the equivalent of 12,000 meals.

"With so many lives being affected it was more apparent than ever that we needed to do whatever we could as a company! These are our neighbors, the ones that made Premium Q Moving what it is, and we were looking to help anyway we could."

More than 616,000 people in Massachusetts, including 1 in 9 children, were food insecure even before the coronavirus outbreak, and those numbers have increased significantly over the past 2 months. And the need will remain elevated even after the worst of the pandemic is over. That's why it is so important that Premium Q Moving & Storage has committed to making these deliveries for as long as they need to. In fact, Chaves said that his team looks forward to Mondays, because they know they are going to be spending time helping their community.

"We really pride ourselves on not only providing a service, but really helping people out. So when our guys actually get to help out with something as meaningful as this it just makes all the hard work worth it. Especially during a time like this."

In addition to the award, Premium Q Moving & Storage will also be receiving Move For Hunger truck decals for their entire fleet.

Congratulations to Premium Q Moving & Storage on this much-deserved recognition! Thank you for helping us fight hunger during this difficult time.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
