May 2018 Mover of the Month: Colorado Hi-Tec Moving & Storage

June 26, 2018

Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are excited to announce that Colorado Hi-Tec Moving & Storage, a Wheaton agent, is our Mover of the Month for May 2018!

Colorado Hi-Tec Moving & Storage has long been one of the most dedicated members of our network. The crew has always gone above and beyond to fight hunger and reduce food waste in the Denver Area.

Last month, Colorado Hi-Tec gathered a team to walk and run the Colfax 5K for the fourth year in a row. Since 2014, the team has turned their miles into meals and raised more than $4,900 to support our programs.

But that's not all! On Memorial, Colorado Hi-Tec volunteered to spend their holiday rescuing food! For the second year in a row, Colorado Hi-Tec sent a truck and a crew to the Bolder Boulder 10K, to recover any of post-race food/drinks that the runners left behind. Because of their efforts, nearly 10,000 lbs. of food/drinks were delivered to Community Food Share. Over the past two years, Colorado Hi-Tec has saved more than 18,000 pounds of food/beverages from the landfill.

Since joining Move For Hunger, Colorado Hi-Tec has delivered nearly 50,000 pounds of food and provided 41,400 meals to those in need.

In addition to the award, Colorado Hi-Tec Moving & Storage will also be receiving a Move For Hunger hand truck, courtesy of Victory Packaging and Move For Hunger truck decals for their entire fleet.

Congratulations to Colorado Hi-Tec Moving & Storage on this much-deserved recognition. Thank you for commitment to reducing food waste and fighting hunger in the Centennial state!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
