Life Extension Holds First-Ever “Fill-A-Pool” Food Drive

June 28, 2018

Looking for a creative way to collect food donations this summer? Why not challenge your friends and family to donate enough food to fill an entire pool - an inflatable kiddie pool, that is!

Life Extension came up with the idea to set up a kiddie pool in the middle of their Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas offices. From June 5-22, employees were encouraged to fill up the pool with donations of non-perishable food items. Between the two offices, Life Extension collected more than 360 pounds of food, which will provide 300 meals to families in need this summer.

43% of low-income families say it’s harder to make ends meet during summer. All kids deserve to have a carefree summer break. Life Extension’s donations will help ensure that no child is left wondering where their next meal will come from this summer.

We would like to thank the following moving companies for volunteering their time and resources to assist with moving the donated food items to local food pantries and organizations:

Coleman Worldwide Moving of Las Vegas, an Allied agent, for delivering food collected by the Las Vegas location to Three Square Food Bank.

Beltmann Relocation Group of Pompano Beach for moving donations from the Fort Lauderdale location to Life Net 4 Families.

Thank you to Life Extension for making a splash by creating a fun way to fight hunger!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
