Lang Realty Holds 7th Annual Holiday Food Drive

March 4, 2020

For the 7th year in a row, we teamed up with our friends from Lang Realty to hold a holiday food drive and fight hunger in South Florida.

From November 25-December 15, all 11 of Lang Realty's offices collected donations of canned goods, pasta, peanut butter, cereal, and other non-perishable items for their neighbors in need. This year Lang Realty was able to collect a whopping 1,568 lbs. of food, which provided 1,300 meals to local families facing hunger! Although all of the Lang Realty locations made an impact, Delray Beach and Boynton Beach led the way by donating 300 lbs. of food each!

Thank you to Joe Bonnie & Son Moving & Storage, a National Van Lines agent, Beltmann Relocation Group of Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Beach, a North American Van Lines agent, and A-1 Moving & Storage of Jupiter for once again volunteering to pick up and deliver the donations to their local food banks!

Since 2013, Lang Realty has collected more than 10,700 lbs. of food, which is the equivalent of nearly 9,000 meals! Thank you for your continued support of our mission to reduce food waste and fight hunger!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
