Kastle Kicks off Partnership with Holiday Food Drive

February 3, 2020

Our new partners from Kastle Systems did their part to fight hunger during the holidays by hosting a Season of Giving Food Drive at their offices in Falls Church, VA.

KastleSystems_Logo-1650x650.pngThe food drive kicked off on Giving Tuesday and concluded on December 17. Kastle's 150 employees were encouraged to donate canned vegetables, pasta, instant potatoes, gravy, pie filling, and other holiday staples to help set the table for their neighbors in need. In just 2 weeks, the staff collected 350 pounds of food, which is the equivalent of 290 meals! The crew from Paxton Van Lines assisted in the effort by volunteering to pick up the donations and deliver them to the Capital Area Food Bank

Kastle is a leader in their community and is always searching for new ways to give back. In addition to being included on the 2018 and 2019 Corporate Philanthropy Lists by the Washington Business Journal, Kastle is also recognized as one of Greater Washington’s leading corporate supporters of area non-profits. We are so excited that Kastle believes in our mission to reduce food waste & fight hunger!

Nearly 380,000 people in the greater Washington D.C. area are food insecure, including 1 in 8 children. Many thanks to Kastle Systems and Paxton Van Lines in helping provide hundreds of meals during the holidays!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
