Jennifer Harvey of Crown Relocations Crushes the Chicago Marathon

October 9, 2018

On October 7, despite less than ideal conditions, Jennifer Harvey of Crown Relocations of New York turned her miles into meals at the iconic Chicago Marathon. Jennifer braved the wind and rain with thousands of other runners, walkers, and spectators, making for a soggy Sunday. Finishing with a remarkable time of 3:11, she is obviously an impressive endurance athlete, as the winner had a time of 2:05.

Besides crushing it out on the course, Jennifer raised much-needed funds for Move For Hunger. In a matter of only a few days, Jennifer raised an impressive $1,680 for our hunger relief and food waste reduction programs. Besides her own dedication to the cause, Crown Relocations of New York has been a dedicated member of Move For Hunger for years and was named our International Movers Association Mover of the Year at this year's conference. Crown has collected more than 213,000 pounds of food since 2010 and continues to be a huge supporter of the cause. Thank you Jennifer for your continued support!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
