January 2020 Mover of the Month: Quality Move Management of Vancouver

February 10, 2020

Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are excited to announce that Quality Move Management of Vancouver, an Allied Van Lines agent, has been named our Mover of the Month for January 2020!

The food drive that Quality Move Management is being honored for was actually held in November and December, but the results were just too outstanding to ignore!

For the third year in a row, QMM held a holiday food drive at their offices in Brampton, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. And, once again, the 4 branches combined to collect an ENORMOUS amount of food. This year, more than 62,000 lbs. of food was donated overall, which was a new record and nearly 5,000 more lbs. than they collected in 2018! Thanks to Quality Move Management's incredibly generous team, nearly 52,000 meals were provided to Canadians who are food insecure.

Although all of the locations made an impact, the Vancouver crew once again stood head and shoulders above the rest by bringing in more than 38,000 lbs. of food, which was more than 2x than the next closest branch (Edmonton, 16,517)!

The food drive ended on December 28, and we didn't get the results until after the new year. Call it a technicality if you must, but Quality Move Management was once again the clear choice for January's Mover of the Month!

During this food drive's 3 year history, QMM has collected more than 171,000 lbs. of food. According to Parthiv Pandya, QMM's Marketing Specialist, giving back to the community is an obligation they take seriously.

"We believe giving back to the community is a crucial part of being an ethical business," Pandya said. "Therefore, we strive to make a positive impact on our customers and in our communities. The fulfilling feeling of giving back and contributing to society is unparalleled."

In addition to the award, Quality Move Management of Vancouver will also be receiving Move For Hunger truck decals for their entire fleet.

Congratulations to Quality Move Management on this much-deserved recognition! Thank you for helping us reduce food waste and fight hunger all across Canada!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
